In 1849

This image was sold at auction in 2009/2010. It is an excellent view of the Miami River Mouth drawn by a unidentified soldier only months after Colonel William English evacuated his plantation with his enslaved Africans. By clicking on the link at bottom the image can be examined in detail. The notes examining the provenance of the document are written by someone of excellent local knowledge of the period.
